SYNOPSIS: The devil is really in the details in this one. It has an interesting subject, well-balanced units, and is enjoyable to play, but there are a couple of real problems. I'll address them in the other sections, except for one, which doesn't fit. Some parts of this scenario seem to be the work of a really perverted mind. Orgasms as a trade commodity? Call me old-fashioned,but that, and a stream of verbal abuse when you try and quit, kind of got on my nerves after a while.

Playability Rating

7/10
COMMENTS: This is the scenario's greatest asset. It was FUN. I played a game as the North Vietnamese, and it was quite enjoyable sneaking guerillas into enemy territory. It was also definitely NOT easy. The Americans annhilated most of my navy early on, and their entrenched infantry was next to impossible to get rid of. Unlike a few Vietnam scenarios, it wasn't just a 2-sided all out battle. The Laotians, Thais, and even Chinese played a role.

Level of General Care

3 / 10
COMMENTS: This was a weak point. The author couldn't seem to decide whether to make it on a round or flat world, and ended out making some type of ugly hybrid of both. The world was round (even though it was just Vietnam) and had a straight, vertical strip of jungle running through the middle of the ocean so you couldn't use the roundness. There were other problems with the map as well. For example, Moscow was on a small 3x3 island just off of Thailand. Then there was the time when an event told me about President Nixon doing something in 1965. He was not President then. Planes and tanks were both somewhat useless, and if this scenario is redone, I recommend making them a bit better. (at least from the North's point of view.) Also, an objective system isn't quite the best way to score this, as nobody ever takes cities. I admit that I can't think of a better way, though. In this scenario, as in the real situation, it's difficult to tell who won...

Art and Originality

5 / 10
ORIGINALITY: It was definitely original. There was some art I hadn't seen before (like the villages and hills) but much of it was taken from 2194 Days of War (not that I'm complaining, of course :) ) The planes were also new, as were most of the guerilla type units. As for original concepts, the one that stands out was a few humourous(There. Are you happy, English and Canadian people? I spelled it with a "u". And it took up even more precious web space :( ) modifications to GAME.TXT.
For example, the cease-fire message changed to something like "Laos and Thailand have signed a cease-fire. For now.....) One thing that wasn't original, and which is a pet peeve of mine, was that the cheat message was modified so that you had to hack into GAME.TXT to turn it on, which was inconvenient. Some of the spelling was also rather original :)
NOTES: None.
