SYNOPSIS: Europe is thrown into the middle of the 7 Years' War. You fight over India, the American Colonies, and European territory all at the same time! Overall Mike gets a ton of credit for making a scenario with a solid base and infrastructure, perhaps one of the most detailed actually.

Playability Rating

7 / 10
COMMENTS: Mike has obviously put a ton of work into this scenario, and with it he has made a top notch one. It has a few flaws only in this category. You see although his scenario uses such eye candy as brand new units, "quests" for certain civs, and brand new (and very cool) sounds, it still has a flaw or two when it comes to Playability.

The scenario starts off very fun, especially as England. I had a tough time kicking the French out of North America but since my Royal Navy ruled the seas, only I could pass it safely. Anyway, I had an absolute blast fighting in America but then when I turned my sights to mainland France I ran into a rather boring, and repetitive stance. My problem was that I would end up pouring in 15 units (grenadiers) into the battle for one city, and I still would not be able to take it! I blame it on the road movement multiplier. it is only 2. The problem with this is that I move one space with my cannon and I lose 50% not 33.3% of it's ability to fight! This basically ensures that I spend years worth of turns getting nowhere, I don't know if it would be historically accurate, but I suggest at least 3 or even 4 for movement multiplier.

As Prussia I did not have as much fun although I did for about half an hour. The thing with Prussia is that you keep on using more and more units and basically getting nowhere. I think it is great that it is a challenge, but I think that a major breakthrough should be possible. It feels like WW1 in this respect, I think that making the scenario a bit more mobile would help (if only by good cavalry then, the cavalry units were really weak).

As a whole, this scenario was a fun one. He put in some really great quests (especially for when the Prussian Field Marshall dies) but I have to give it a 7 because just as soon as you play as the different civs and do all the quests, it is no longer replayable per say but rather tedious. Of course the first time you play as each of the civs you are almost guaranteed to have a blast, I sure did. Also, I think that this scenario has excellent promise, if Mike can just make it a bit more "spontaneous" I think it would greatly improve replayability. He has the foundation all set, he just needs to chisel it down a bit.

Level of General Care

10/10
COMMENTS: You can debate this scenario's Playability all that you want, but you simply can't debate this. Mike put an extreme amount of work into this scenario to go the extra mile and make this scenario as good as it can be. He made new sounds, units, and quests for it and he typed up a fairly large history text of his scenario and how it relates to the real life events.

Even though it can be argued that some things did not quite work out in this scenario, it is point blank obvious that he put a ton of work and care into this scenario. There is evidence that he put in more time then most people do on a scenario.

Art and Originality

10/10
NEW IDEAS: Well this scenario certainly has a ton of new ideas in it, or at the very least ideas that have only been in one or two other scenarios at most (which in my view is still a "new idea").

I like his quest for the Prussian General's papers. I ended sending out little teams to comb the countryside for them (and to no avail). It was a nice little distraction that I looked forward to each turn, something to draw my mind away from the hopeless struggle further south.

You also have to give him credit for including India, America, and Europe all in the same scenario without losing historical or geographical accuracy. I think that this was a rather original way to go about it; not many scenarios have used this map, I can think of only one other (hint! hint! It is prolly the largest WW2 scenario to date out there…)

ARTWORK: Mike went out of his way to create some 34 brand new units for this scenario, add this to the new sounds that he made (hey music is an art) and you have a great combination. I don't really know what to say for this column, he made a ton of new units, they were all good, and he made new sounds for them. How much more originality and quality of art do you want?

NOTES: Don't be a cheapskate, download all the sounds for this scenario, they are very good and definitely worth it (they got me "into it").
