Hypoboria is basically the standard Civ2 Earth game but in a parallel universe where there are giant plants and airships.

Overall / Playability / General Care / Art & Originality / Concluding Notes

Overall Rating

5 / 30
COMMENTS: OK, Julia here again with another scenario that, well, stank! I was all excited when you told me that it was a scenario that had Cimmerians in it, but as it turns out this is a thinly veiled Earth scenario with some names changed and a few new techs. Nothing is really new about it, and the play isn't much changed from the regular game.

Playability Rating

2 / 10
COMMENTS: I would have given it a 1 but it does play OK if you like the regular Civ2 game. OK, it's got a few new units but honestly they are all art we've seen before (comes with the game) and so I was less than impressed. The game takes place on a slightly modified Earth map, with a lot of grass. There are NO EVENTS! What is it with people who think they can write a scenario and have no events in it?

Level of General Care

2 / 10
COMMENTS: OK, lots of newbie errors here. First, no pedia is included. No readme is included, so I have no idea what the plot was supposed to be. It nowhere warned me I needed MGE so I crashed on stupid FW. The map is basically the Earth map with two new continents and a land bridge between Asia and America. They really should use one of the better maps that's out there!

There's very little in the way of new art, wonders, units, etc., and almost everything is the same as the usual game. The total lack ofevents is also pretty sad.

They included some useless files, like .bak files and their autosaves, but no title image or starting text to let us know what the scen is about.

I gave the author 2 points because the tech tree is in order and there are a few new units. No new wonders or city stuff, though, and the terrain is all the usual. Plus there's no plot.

Art and Originality

1 / 10
Comments: There's not really any new art except some stuff from the scens that came with MGE. It isn't very original, either, just adding some new city names and a few units and techs. It mixes fantasy and SF units with regular game units, and very little is changed.

CONCLUDING REMARKS: None.
