Cam Hills' Review of Europe: 1650

Overall / Playability / General Care / Art & Originality / Concluding Notes

Overall Rating

24/30
SYNOPSIS: The scenario works out rather similarly to what actually happened, but it is a little slow. Used Microprose's Europe map, and runs from Jan 1648 to Jan 1789.

Playability Rating

8 / 10
COMMENTS: It's fun to play, and is rather challenging. Some barbarian cities in Central Asia could help. The atmospehere is great, but the title graphic could be a bit less depressing. The balance is great, all expansion is fully realistic. It should have been made on Deity.

Level of General Care

6 / 10
MAP: The map is adequate.

DOCUMENTATION: The documentation is lacking. There is no Readme file and the Intro could be a little more detailed.

TECH TREE: The tech tree is in the proper order.

CITY NAMES: Russia will probably be the only civ that builds cities, so the names are no problem.

Art and Originality

7 / 10
NEW IDEAS: The scenario has achieved excellence in balance, no new ideas otherwise. Several new units and wonders, but the tech tree is largely the same

ART: The artwork is fine. Some units are borrowed, one or two are new.

NOTES/SCREENSHOTS: (1) The French and English face off across the channel. (2) Russians advance on Kiev.
