COMMENTS:
The scenario is not that difficult, especially since it is optimized
for Prince level. I recommend that it be played at least on Emperor
level. Still the absence of city walls, combined with the heightened
movement and unit scores, increases the importance of battles
in the countryside. Add the fact that there are no barracks,
and the author has sucessfully balanced the concepts of Civ2
combat to make a fast-paced, interesting game. Unfortunately,
the same cannot be said for naval battles. There are only two
kinds of ships, and I had expected to see more action on the
high seas.

My biggest complaint is
that a handful of cosmetic changes would have made the game far
more visually appealing. Changes to one or two files would have
totally transformed the feel of the game (especially because
where I found the scenario, there is another of the same era
with better graphics). Still, this change would have been cosmetic
only, and underneath the graphics the scenario itself is enjoyable.
As mentioned before, there
is nothing at fault, just nothing to its credit that distinguishes
the scenario.
All nations that I played
seemed well-balanced, but again at any level the AI is no match
for an astute general.
I enjoyed playing this scenario,
and wrote to the author about the changes I suggested. I still
maintain that a visit to Alex the Magnificent's site would have
given him most of the new graphics he needed. |
