The Night of the Living Reviews
|
2002.11.30
|
We should all pat El Leon on the back for submitting a review of Mathias Koester's Vikings - Across the Oceans to our fine Organization.
The rest of you puny mortals ought to remember that The Organization is for life and that once you submit a review, you can't stop. If you want to keep all of your favourite body parts, I suggest that you begin writing reviews yesterday.:D
There is a Forum Thread about this.

Earth-shattering Cataclysmic Calamitous News
|
2002.11.20
|
The 2002 November issue of the Scenario League magazine is out now. Read all about, err, stuff and discuss it in this thread.
I can almost guarantee that the January issue will be out by the Ides of March. Almost.;)
The site is now greyish. I don't know what Battleship grey is, but someone requested it and I had to guess.^-^

Take That! And That! And More of That!
|
2002.11.17

I am not crazy about this recolouring, but people have requested blue and they are getting blue.:)
Nemo's Cities has been up for a while.
We are now linking to the Spanish Civilisation Site.

The Green! It burns! It burns, I tell you!
|
2002.11.15
|
As a way of commemorating a hundredth anniversary - not SLeague, but chances are that today is the hundredth anniversary of something - we have switched our colour scheme from Poison Yellow to Toxic Green. Yay!;)
Today, I've added BeBro's Cities to SLeague's database.
As always, please flame me via email or on the forum.

Markos Deus Est (What? I don't know Ancient Greek.)
|
2002.11.14
|
Damn, I am loving my site more and more so I guess I ought to thank Markos again for giving me free hosting. SLeague wouldn't exist without him. Oh, and Dan rocks too.:)
Today I've added Age of Wonder Cities, Leo's Cities, Leo's Units, and Nemo's Ships to SLeague's database. Conversions have been split off from Graphics using the stupid way that involved changing the filetype of 18 files rather than the intelligent way that would have involved changing the filetype of 3 files. Finally, you can now email me from the toolbar if you are using the Opera 7 beta the way you could have done already yesterday if you were using Mozilla. Yay for long sentences.:)
Planwise, I want to add even more graphics for download, to make a glossary of civ2 jargon, to get rid of the extremely obsolete EU2 design tip, and to migrate the layout from tables to positioned divs.:D

Elementary, My Dear Fat Lady
|
2002.11.13
|
With the release of the Opera 7 beta, there are now two major browsers that support a navigation toolbar. Naturally, I've immediately added enough LINK elements to SLeague for us to have one. Yeah, yeah, my definition of major probably isn't the same as the dictionary's.:)
In other news, Warvoid is busy judging the fourth Scenario Design Contest, Mercator is about to make a heroic contribution to the cEvo community, and I am still being kept in the dark about the status of the Scenario League Magazine.;)

Absolute Power
|
2002.11.04
|
I remembered that the real reasons that I accepted the position at Apolyton was because I needed a place to store all of the Civ2 things that I've made over the years. For some reason, I had not acted on that need until now.:)
The only things not up yet are my Age of Wonders cities and the stuff that I actually drew myself. I will probably add some unit collections made by other people next. Probably.*g*
You might notice that I've added a few more views for the database for obvious reasons. I really need to make their generation a bit more dynamic.
Because the Civ2 file naming convention isn't muddled enough, I've decided that all of the things that I previously referred to as "Fictional" will henceforth be referred to as "AltHist". Muwahahahaha!^-^

Mercator's CivStack is available for download in our Utilities section.
I would like to take this moment to remind everyone that the SLeague magazine is bimonthly and is not coming out in October.:D

Shiny Shininess

2002.09.20

As part of my evil plan to alienate SLeague's visitors, we are now even more Mozilla-friendly. Those of you viewing this site with Mozilla can now be visually stimulated with rounded table borders and a purty icon in the location bar.
In other news, almost all the widths are now specified in one convenient CSS files.:)

A Nice Magazine Rack
|
2002.09.13
|
The first issue of the Scenario League Magazine is out courtesy of the valiant efforts of Techumseh, Case, and Whasthisname... err... Gothmog.:)
Boco has filled one of the available Database Monkey positions and entered the old Harald Fairhair review into the database. Kudos to Boco for being a Real Civer and having What It Takes.:) The rest of you are worthless! Worthless, I tells you! Lousy good-for-nuthin whippersnappers.:P
It should also be noted that SLeague still accepts reviews. A review of exampli gratia Moria would be great; such a review should follow the same general outline as this top-notch review of Of Celts and Iberians.

In Uffish Thought He Stood
|
2002.09.04
|
Todayforth, Review scores can have non-integer values and there is also a field pointing to external download links (see the Of Celts and Iberians review).
A Database Monkey position is available.
We conclude this broadcast with the request that you vote for your greatly beloved and small-egoed SLeague moderators in this poll.;)

Reviewatronics
|
2002.09.01
|
Reviews of Rick Westera's Rome 280 by Bernd Brosing, Kobayashi's Battle for the Alpha Quadrant by Willen van Oranje, and Kobayashi's Dominion Wars by John Valdez have been added to our shiny new review section.
BTW, we have a shiny new review section.:)

Down with Microsoft
|
2002.08.21
|
Muwahaha, I've gotten around to testing the site in IE again and the logo is being misrendered. Fortunately, Opera and Mozilla don't have any problems displaying it. Oh well, it's not as if anyone still uses MSIE.;)
A few utilities have been added to the downloads section.

Layout and Things
|
2002.08.20
|
The colour contrast has been tweaked slightly and the logo reworked to match the changes.
Two utilities, for Fantasy General and Age of Empires respectively, have been added to the file database. The display code has been modularised and is now shared between the Civ2 Alphabetical and the Utilities pages.:)
This news item has been experimenting with the use of the passive voice for the nefarious purpose of sounding aloof.:)
Keep on Existing,

Downloads
|
2002.08.15
|
I've included several of the old review candidates in the new downloads section. Exile's Modern Age has no download link because the one in the old section leads to a dead site. None of the new authours have emails listed because I didn't download the files.
Yeah, the thumbnails are ugly and, yeah, they are actually four times the displayed size, but that's, erm, Blackclove's fault. Honest.:)
Guys, feel free to send in more reviewage and candidatage. I mean it. I don't mind your submitting material at all. You won't offend me in the least.^-^
In the next few days I will post modding utilities for several games.
Markos, it might interest you to note that Dracon's download is through one of your database pages. That seems to be an efficient use of space and one that I will indubitably employ more often once the ACS Dir gets some worthwhile content. No, I am not volunteering.;D
Live long and prosper,

/me sends a hundred virgins of Markos' gender-of-choice to Greece;)
The wise, munificent, and generous administration has kindly debased itself by listening to the pleas of a mere mortal and has given me a db. Like, far out, man!
The new Downloads and Links pages are up. In the coming months, I might integrate the existing reviews and downloads into one easy to manage&&navigate&&use layout.

Old Stuff
|
2002.08.01

It has come to my attention that the link to the stuff that made this site great is very subdued. That is no longer the case.
Maybe I'll get around to posting the three new reviews soon.:)

Gimme db
|
2002.07.13

All SLeague members are now required by law to have "Give Leo a db" in their sigs. Not having it is punishable by catapult.
Cam Hills' email has been delisted.

EU2 Country Creation Primer
|
2002.05.06
|
First of all, I added Havard's Country Creation Primer to the
EU2 tips. Oh, and I asked for permission this time around. No
reply yet, but whatever.:)
Regarding ads, Markos, I tried to integrate the ad code into
the main page and at first I got intermittent results and then
no results at all. Maybe I accidentally uploaded instead of
downloading and overwrote the new code with old one. Just a
theory.

EU2 Tip, Downloads, Ads
|
2002.05.05
|
I've put three scenarios up for review (sorry, BeBro, Vikings'
sounds are on your server for the moment); the reviews page
will be made fully functional soon. An EU2 graphics design tip has
been added (and I will notify the author very soon:).
BTW, Markos, your ad code isn't working. A sample include is found
in the Test Ads item on the navbar.
Yo, Warvoid, I tweaked your reworking of the logo. Why "Vedas"? Well,
your "manifest" seems like the wrong word, "Bible" is overused,
"Qur'an" would get me blown up, "Torah" and "Talmud" seem boring,
and some might object to "Kama Sutra of Scenario Design".;)

EU2 1.05 Will Include Editor
|
2002.05.03
|
This thread
at the Paradox forums features screenshots from the editor
that will be included with the 1.05 patch. It is expected to
be released sometime this month; some speculate that it will
be released next monday (2002.05.06), but they are the same
people who said that it would be released last monday (2002.04.29).

Blah, Reviews, Blah, Links
|
2002.05.03
|
The Links page has been converted to the new layout (none of the
browsers seem to support the column properties of CSS) and a new
Reviews page has been roughed out.
I might try my hand at writing (or borrowing;) a design tip tomorrow;
I am also gathering fresh review candidates so that I can put up a
new Dowloads page.
Oh, and contrary to my intentions, I've placed the layout in a giant
table. Why? Because it works.:(
-St. Leo

|
Revised Layout
|
2002.05.02
|
I've changed the main page and the tips index to a new layout. The plan right
now is to also reformat the other indices, but keep the legacy layout on the
old pages. Why? Because I am (somewhat) sane and wish to remain that way.:)
If you wish to do
it, give me a holler and provide your contact info. I will promptly forward
it to the appropriate institutions so that you can get the help that you need.;)

New Program Converts MGE Scenarios to FW
|
1999.04.19
|
Have Fantastic Worlds
and are tired of Multi-player Gold Scenarios failing to load
for you? Well, we have good news: Programmer Angelo Scotto
has written a small (22K) utility that can convert MGE scenarios
to Fantastic Worlds format for you to play.
There are some things
that may not work 100% right, but it seems to work pretty well
for me. Right now I'm playing an MGE scenario with Fantastic
Worlds and it works great! Just take the .SCN file, drag it and
drop it on the MGEConverter program, and voila!
