Members'Area: Download Scenarios For Review

This page is where you can get copies of the scenarios we're currently looking for reviews of. Active League members should try to review at least one scenario per batch, if possible. While we welcome reviews of other scenarios, we hope people will take our suggestions seriously so we can have meaningful discussions and get multiple ratings for the same scenario.

If you have a scenario you would like to see reviewed, please send a note to sleague@apolyton.net. It is preferable that you have your files at a remote location, however if this is not possible, the Scenario League will consider hosting the scenario (contingent on file size) - only zipped files will be accepted. A free Winzip evaluation program can be downloaded at www.winzip.com

Markus Eklund's "The Napoleonic Eagles" is a scenario that starts in 1805 and ends in 1814 (so you don't get to fight at Waterloo). You play as Napoleon himself and your goal is to create a strong, unified Europe under French leadership. Requires FW.

Dracon's "Ripoff Pack Version 2.0" makes the most of graphical elements from other Civ-related games by adopting selected images from a variety of sources and wrapping them neatly into the Civ2 palette.
John Valdez's "Lunar Mission Modpack" for Civilization II versions 1.08 to 2.42. is a test of "What if we colonized the Moon?". Nations compete to build and dominate the Lunar surface, while dissident humans break off from these bases and form the "Lunarites". The goal is to unite the Moon through conquest or build a spaceship and let them have that pulverized chunk o' rock! Inspired by Frederic Meunie's Moonland Modpack.
James E's "A Trial of History" is an attempt to compensate for the various "historical inaccuracies and gaps" found in Civilization II. Requires MPG. Please note, new 'read me' file added 9 November 2000 and replacement units on 12 November 2000 (not in original zipped file at the right).

Markus Eklund's "Karl II" (Vers. 2.0) focuses on Sweden's invasion of Russia. Karl XII thought the best way to defeat Russia was to strike at the heart of the Russian empire, at their old capital Moscow. In 1707 he began marching towards Russia with his army, probabaly the best trained and most modern army in Europe. Requires FW.
Timothy Came's "Napoleon" (Vers 1.0) starts in 1793 just after King Louis XVI has being executed. Europe is in a state of shock following this act, and soon after this France (already at war with Austria and Sardinia) declears war on Holland, Spain and Britain. However at this time France is in a very difficult position, the treasury is empty, the army is in a state of chaos and the country is facing famine. Facing these problems France's chances seemed very slim, but by 1796 Napoleon Bonepart was given command of the Armee' de Italia and in just under a year had conqured much of Nothern Italy and forced Austria to surrender. Requires FW.
John Valdez's "Mars Patch" offers the ability to play a different planet. Very similar to FW: Mars Now! Scenario, this Mars patch has more units, terrain changes, Martian Canals, and additional rules. Also, there are four Martian Maps to play that reflect the challenging dry, cratered Mars that everyone imagines. Successfully playtested with Civ2 version 2.42.
St Leo's "Fictional Americas" takes a wildly altenative view to how the Americas were colonized - featuring the Vikings, Irish monks, Roman fleets, the Phoenicians, the Chinese, Meso-Americans, and of course, the natives. Requires FW.

It is up to you, Maximus Gloriosus to quell the civil unrest incited by the goons of the evil Julius Commonus. He has fortified himself in a luxurious Palace to the North-East... Requires FW.

Prometeus' "Antigonos" commences with Alexander, from his death bed being asked: "Who is the heir you'll give your empire?" Alexander answers: "The strongest of you!" A multi-tribe tussle led by the Antigonids over an ancient kingdom. Requires MPGE (FW scn file available for separate download).
R. Lawrence's first scenario - "1937" - is an attempt to overcome several quirks of the game by taking into account 'blitzkreig' warfare, giving carriers the capacity to attack air units, and the removal of railroads as well as troop transporters.
Rick Westera's "Rome 280 BC: Conquest of the Classical World" is inspired by the original Rome.scn but has a full range of Classical technologies, units, wonders, and events - not to mention a very different feel to the gameplay. Pyrrhus is invading Roman Italy as part of Epirus' brief bid for world empire, while the Carthaginians rule the Western Mediterranean, and three Greek empires struggle for control of the east, unaware of the Celtic maelstrom about to descend upon them from northern Europe. (Revised version implemented 8th January 2001). Requires MPGE.
Joff provides a modern scenario 'Kosivo War' that covers "Milosevic's liberation war against the Kosovarian population" and the consequent NATO strike back. Note: Some text is in Italian.
Kobayashi presents 'Star Trek: The Battle for the Alpha Quadrant'. It is the 23rd Century and different races are just beginning to discover warp drive, and to explore and colonize the vastness of the Final Frontier - Space. As per the events depicted in Star Trek - First Contact, the BORG have arrived. Requires Fantastic Worlds. Scenario version #2.
Ian Thompson brings the classic Tolkien tale 'Lord of the Rings' to Civ2 Test of Time. Using the 'fantasy game' base, this scenario includes an extensive events file to unfold the journey of Frodo the Hobbit. Requires ToT.
Exile presents 'The Modern Age': At the close of the 15th century, the Modern Age dawned. This was the age of nation states and their absolutist monarchs; Phillip II, Charles V, Louis XIV, Henry VIII, Elizabeth and Isabella. An age of enthusiasm for war opened with the roar of the new cannons and the steady advance of the Ottoman Turks into Europe.

NOTES FOR JUNE-AUGUST: These downloads are scenarios that are put up for review. We are seeking reviews for all of them so please contribute your thoughts if you try them. Many of these scenarios are released here for the first time and the authors want your feedback. We didn't include everything that was sent to us this time, simply to avoid overflowing the page. That doesn't mean I picked the best stuff - this is a pretty mixed bag. I did try to avoid having two scenarios from the same author in the same month. Other stuff is coming!

Held Over from May

We're still seeking reviews of the following scenarios:

While yet another Israel scenario might at first seem less than interesting, do give Roi Yarom's fascinating Six Days and Six Hours a try. You can't build any units on your own and start on the offensive during the 1960's. Innovative use of the tech tree and nice art. Download: Six Days and Six Hours. [Multi-Player Gold Edition/376K]

Taylor Harris (we think that's his name) has crafted a very interesting guerilla war scenario set in a fictional Latin American country called San Lorenzo. Take the role of real-world rebel leader Che Guevarra and his communists as they try to wrest the nation from U.S. Interests, the corrupt government, and drug cartels. Download: Civil War in San Lorenzo. [Fantastic Worlds/173K]

Jesus Munoz is a well-known designer whose latest scenario covers the Holy Roman Empire after the death of Charlemagne. Sort of a sequel to Temba's scenario. Has some nice art and looks fun. Download: Holy Roman Empire. [Fantastic Worlds/537K]

A total war scenario covering Europe and the Muslim near east, this unique scenario begins at around 750 AD. Download: Brian Gottesman's End of the Dark Ages. [Multi-Player Gold Edition/391K]

A Hungarian designer name Maciek sent us a scenario about the crusades from 1189-1228 AD, set almost entirely in the Holy Land. Take the role of the Christians as they fight off hordes of Islamic warriors bent on driving them from Jerusalem. Download: Outremer. [Fantastic Worlds/307K]

New designer Dylan Figueiredo has prepared a very good historical scenario covering a relatively obscure Canadian uprising called The Northwest Rebellion of 1885. Using lots of new graphics and a great events file, this promises to be a very well-received scenario. Download: Northwest Rebellion. [Multi-Player Gold Edition/595K]

Alexandre Ostrowiecki is quickly becoming one of the most respected designers for his collection of Israel-based scenarios. Unlike his others, the new Yom Kippur: Day of Treason scenario can be played from either the Arab or Israeli side. I have to admit I greatly enjoyed conquering Israel instead of saving it for a change! Download: Yom Kippur. [Multi-Player Gold Edition/371K]

Brrrakkaaaaa isn't a war cry, it's a new designer, and his Star Trek scenario isn't bad looking for a first time out. Take a look if you're a fan of the series. Download: Star Trek. [Fantastic Worlds/920K]

Another new designer, Kitana has prepared her first scenario - a bare-bones affair that could probably use some input. Be gentle; it's her first, and we all know how hard our first one was to create. Set on a world filled with water and using few new units. Download: Water World. [Multi-Player Gold Edition/149K]

Possibly destined to be a classic: Death and Rebirth of an Empire covers the Byzantine Empire's rebirth. Hendrick the Great is already a well-known designer in some circles and this is his best work yet. Download: Daroae, sounds1 and sounds2. [Fantastic Worlds/381K, 921K and 860K]

WarVoid, a relative newcomer, provides us with two fictional scenarios this time. The first is called Arctic: 2045 and asks what would happen if Greenland and its neighbors suddenly become important and split from the great powers. A good near-future war scenario. The second is a more standard near-future scenario where New England and New York split up into warring states.

New designer Mitch Rice has written a World War II scenario called World at War that has some new units and events and stuff. It isn't exactly Red Front, but it it his first try, so as always be gentle and try to help him grow. Download: World at War. [Fantastic Worlds/273K]

Download: Barron Scenario, Unit Sounds 1, Unit Sounds 2, and the Event Sounds. [Fantastic Worlds/814K, 1 MB, 1MB, and 3.6 MB]

New Scenarios for June-August: Foreign Language

DEUTSCH. BBro has done some amazing art for Kreuz und Halbmond, a new German-language scenario covering the Crusades from 936 to 1244 AD. Has a cool title.gif and some seriously great art. Too bad I don't read German!! Download: Kreuz und Halbmond and sounds1, sounds2. [Fantastic Worlds/692K, 557K and 600K]

ITALIANO. The new scenario by Goddi Diego is in Italian (che posso leggere un po) and seems to be about ancient China. It's called Chung Kuo and has some very weird features... perhaps it's based on a movie or book series? In any case, it features lots of new art and if you can read Italian it might be fun to try. Download: Chung Kuo, sounds1, and sounds2. [Fantastic Worlds/461K, 985K and 569K]
