Cheating in PBEMs – what to look out for and how to deal with it by Case
All too many PBEM games have been ruined by the stupid and destructive behaviour of a few cheaters. While it’s unrealistic to hope that all cheating can be stamped out, the incidence of cheating can be dramatically reduced if players keep an eye out for suspicious behaviour and know how to deal with suspected cheaters. Here's how …

The Nemo Unit Compilation Project by the ANZAC
nemo styleOver a year ago I was left with my last email from Captain Nemo; he said in closing, “Have fun and keep civing.” Since then I have not heard a word from him. But in keeping with his last words, I compiled most, if not all, of his World War 2 era units. Many people have taken on the style of Captain Nemo in their unit making and now the time is ripe for these units to be compiled into a gigantic unit compilation. I have been able to collect many of these units, but I know there are many more out there. So gather all the ones you have made/heavily modified and send them to theanzac@optonline.net so they can be put into this collection, which will be released in Scenario League Magazine. Don’t have any units to contribute? It’s never too late to start! :-)

Visit the ANZAC's Site at http://www.geocities.com/augusta/fairway/2116 where you can see what has been compiled so far.

Welcome
Why are Techumseh, Case, and Gothmog publishing a magazine about Civilization series scenario making?
    For a couple of reasons
  • Despite reports of its demise, Civ 2 lives on in the form of scenario making. Old timers continue making and revising scenarios and many newcomers are just getting started. One of the latest trends in scenario making is designing scenarios for PBEM. This presents a whole new set of challenges for designers. Another trend is push the envelope of design for single player scenarios. This means new graphic presentations and more complexity with game play. We'd like to talk about these things.
  • Another reason is to revive the Scenario League at Apolyton. SL was formed to review scenarios and gather scenario making tips. Clearly not much is happening there. Our plan is to publish a new magazine issue every two months. Our emphasis will be on current issues of the day.

If you want to help, send us ideas for articles. We're willing to consider anything pertaining to Civilization series scenario making. If you have an idea, the best way to contact us is by leaving a Personal Message at Apolyton or Civ Fanatics forums. Contact Techumseh, Case, or Gothmog (Oryx at CF).

BTW, Who are these guys, Techumseh, Case, and Gothmog?

Techumseh is a veteran Civ 2 scenario maker, active in SL for 3½ years. His scenarios include War of 1812, Congo!, Prince of Darkness, and Red October. He hails from Edmonton, Canada and can be usually be found promoting the virtues of Test of Time on the SL forum. His web site can be found at:
http://www.tecumseh.150m.com/

Case is an avid participant in numerous PBEM games. His scenarios include The Cruel Sea and Raging Dragon with more scenarios in the works. He resides in Canberra, Australia and lives alarmingly close to Apolyton diety Alexander's Horse. His web site can be found at:
http://www.geocities.com/nick_dowling2002/index.html

Gothmog is best known for his scenario making tools, CivTweak and CivCity. His scenarios include Pitt's War at Sea, Brown Man's Burden II, and Struggle for Empire, the French and Indian War. He resides in Western Pennsylvania and is the proprieter of Carl's Scenarios for Civilzation II.

Err, did we mention that there was an Easter egg somewhere in this issue? By Easter egg, we mean a hidden puzzle. First you have to find the puzzle, then you have to solve it. If you solve the puzzle, send us a Personal Message, with the solution. Next issue, we'll publish your name and then everyone will know how smart you are.
